Here We Go A-Wassailing

Marla used to have caroling parties when she was in high school so when we got an invite from a friend to go this year with the kids, she jumped at the chance to introduce Emma and Henry.

The night we went went caroling (wassailing, if you want to kick it old school) was clear and cool and the kids were so excited. We started out with a bit of pizza and cookies, practiced a few carols in the house and then departed.

It was funny to see the reaction on different faces when we rang the doorbell. I suppose it is a sign of the times that no one gets random visitors – even if they are neighbors – after supper. But, despite the initial surprise, everyone enjoyed the show.

And with these four children smiling and singing for you, how could you not?

I swear, some days Emma is just as cute as a button. She was in rare form the day these pictures were taken. Early in the day she wanted to dress up and pose for the camera. The white straw hat put it over the top.

Later in the day she and Henry took turns making sweet music (sort of) with my guitar. I love the shot where she’s so earnestly “reading” the music while strumming. I think the song was “Life is A Highway.”

There’s nothing quite so sweet as a pre-school performance, is there? Need proof? witness the photos and bonus video! What could make the day more special? When grandparents (Mandel, in this case) are in town to see it, too.

Emma and her pre-school practiced for many weeks to bring us the fine show you see captured here. They sand, they strutted, they blew the doors off!

rockin’ with the donnas

We started out the weekend rockin’ with The Donnas and ended up partying like a bunch of three year olds. It was awesome!

Flipping through the channels before bed Saturday night we happened upon The Donnas performing on INHD. Being the rocker that she is, Emma had to watch – despite it being past bedtime. And, being the musical tour de force that she is, Emma had to sing along.
