In mid-June, while our house was being fumigated for termites, we spent a long weekend in San Diego with Granma Northcutt in tow.
First stop: Sea World!
We'd never been before, despite passing it on the freeway many times. It turned out to be a real treat. Emma and Henry both loved the animal shows but, even more so, the giant "playgrounds" in between.
We finally landed in the evening at our hotel, a swanky spot in the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego.
We were a little wary of how the kids would do in a hotel room for three days but our worries were for naught. Emma and Granma split a bed, Henry snoozed in his pack and play and Marla and I were in the remaining bed. We turned in early each night and everyone woke up in a good mood the next morning.
The highlight of the weekend was probably the trip to the San Diego Zoo, though Emma would probably choose the ice cream from Ghiradelli if you put the question to her.

Looks like you guys had fun. I loved living in San Diego --there's just SO much stuff to do there. We never ran out of ideas for weekend activities as long as the weather held out. Which was like EVERY weekend almost. Gas Lamp area is cool, too. I used to walk there for lunch once a week or so when I worked downtown.
If you liked the Zoo, I recommend the Wild Animal Park if you haven't been. It's a lot closer to where you live, too, so you could make a day trip of it.

Sea World looks like so much fun! We just went to see the Dolphin IMAX, and Jonah mentioned that he would like to go to Sea World one day after seeing it. What were the giant playgrounds like?

They are great! We actually went to Sea World today (purchased a pass last time). All we did was play, see Shamu and see the dolphins! We had a great time. One time I'll remember to bring the suits since they have some water themed playgrounds!
