La Jolla Shores 5K

This past weekend we took a jaunt down to lovely La Jolla. We perused the town, had a fantastic dinner (sans children, no less!) and then ran ourselves into the ground the next morning at the La Jolla Shores 5K.

I ran in the 5K race and Marla participated in the 5-mile Stride. The course for both was fantastic, winding along the coast. I ran the 5K in 26' 33" beating my Dove Dash 5K time by 15 seconds. I was hoping for 26 minutes flat but I shouldn't complain about a new personal best!

The 5K finish was also the start of the 5 Mile Stride. After a bottle of water and a half a banana I ran another ~ 2 miles until I caught up with Marla and we finished the 5 Mile Stride together.

We ended the trip to La Jolla with a great brunch at the Brockton Villa, right on the cove. Pelicans were soaring, sea lions were sunning themselves and there were flowers blooming everywhere.

Some days living in California is just plain worth the crazy cost of living!

Wow, that's so rad. You go!

How long did it take before you ran your first mile?

Not sure when I ran my first solid mile but by late September '06, after ~ 2 months of running every other day, I was able to run 2 miles at about an 11 minute/mile pace.

My best mile lately is 7'56" - 3 full minutes faster than those first miles in September. My typical pace is more like 8'20". I can't keep up at under 8 minutes miles for more than a mile :)

You said "Some days living in California is just plain worth the crazy cost of living!" How true! *sigh* That killed me to read that! It's just not the same out here in AZ. Great pics, btw. :)
