Winter Camp 2012

For the second year in a row we joined our Cub Scout troop for Winter Camp at Camp Marin Sierra.

Thankfully the snow wasn’t as late as I am getting these pictures up. We lucked out, again, and got fresh snow just in time for our arrival. The big new activity this year, given how fresh the snow was, was knocking on trees to create a mini-avalanche. Our hike took forever since we stopped at every tree. The laughter that followed more than made up for the extra time out in the cold.

This Week in Northcutt: Episode 1

I’m sitting in the Oakland Airport right now waiting on a flight to CES. (See all of IGN’s CES coverage here.) It’s quiet, unstructured moments like this that I really like to poke through the site and look back on fun and family… only for 2012 there’s not much to see. I did a terrible job keeping things up to date and it makes an otherwise exciting and eventful year look dull.

First Snow

First Snow

In mid-January Henry, Emma and I joined the rest of Cub Scout Pack 28 for a weekend trip to Camp Marin Sierra, just inside the Tahoe National Forrest a few hours to the east of us. We were very excited because all the talk in the fall was about how lucky we were to draw a January date, when the snow pack was destined to be fantastic. Imagine our disappointment, then, as our camp date approached while we continued to enjoy (in San Rafael, anyway) the 2nd driest winter on record. Ever!

Overnight at Monterey Bay Aquarium

Overnight at Monterey Bay Aquarium

Henry has only been in Cub Scouts for a few months but our list of activities keeps piling up. At the beginning of November we were able to go on an overnight trip with the Scouts to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We are no strangers to aquariums, having been members at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Staying overnight, though, was a whole new experience. We had the place virtually to ourselves, which made for a very leisurely visit.
